Low-cost and tasty for breakfast or an after-school snack. Easy for older children to prepare themselves. All for less than 50-cents per person each day!

Cooking directions

Toast bread and top with your favourite toppings.

Some of our favourite healthy toppings:

  • marmite or vegemite
  • peanut butter
  • hummus
  • low-fat cottage cheese
  • sliced banana


  • Often spreads such as margarine or butter aren't needed. If you do want to use a spread, use a little, not a lot.
  • Try using low-fat spreads or margarine rather than butter.
  • Look for peanut butter with no added salt or sugar
