Left-over custard and fruit
Preparation time: 2 minutes
Custard is a traditional kiwi dessert. But add some fruit to left-over custard and you've got a breakfast that will have the kids ready to power through the day. Make extra custard the night before and save some for breakfast.
Cooking directions
Custard and fruit for breakfast:
- Serve custard warm or cold. If serving warm, reheat for a couple of minutes in the microwave.
- Add left-over custard to your favourite fresh or canned fruit.
To make custard for 4 people:
- Mix ¼ cup low-fat milk with 2 tablespoons custard powder and 2 teaspoons brown sugar. Stir until forms a smooth paste.
- Pour 1 ¾ cups of low-fat milk into a saucepan. Bring to the boil. Stir often so it doesn't burn.
- When the milk is boiling, take off heat and pour in the custard paste. Stir well.
- Serve custard warm or cold.
Tip:
- Canned or frozen fruit is just as good for you as fresh (and sometimes cheaper) - look out for specials at the supermarket.
